Breastfeeding Boutique Helps Breastfeeding Moms Connect

An important purpose

In a tiny room behind the beautiful gift shop at Methodist Women’s Hospital, I have a mountain of supplies: breastfeeding pumps, tubes, bras, pads and bottles.

While these breastfeeding supplies have an important purpose, it’s the connection I make with new moms and expecting families through the Breastfeeding Boutique where I find my true passion.

A unique place

Every single day, I help families navigate the intricacies of breastfeeding, and make sure they have the tools they need for breastfeeding success. The Breastfeeding Boutique is a unique place where we share what we know about breast pumps, replacements parts, nursing bras and supplies with new parents. It’s truly a joy for me.

There are many different aspects of what I do to help new moms prepare for breastfeeding. The best part, however, is working alongside parents to educate and serve – making sure they have the tools and support they need to have a positive breastfeeding experience.

Breast pumps and insurance

One of the biggest aspects of my job – besides helping families choose what kind of pump is right for their needs – is to help them also navigate the insurance landscape. Depending on the health insurance they have, a breast pump and certain supplies may be covered at no cost or at a reduced cost.

A provision of the Affordable Care Act requires most health insurance plans to cover breast pumps. The amount and just which supplies are covered vary based on a family’s specific plan. We gladly assist you when it comes to filing your breast pump insurance claim.

And by the way, we don’t just help patients who deliver here at Methodist Women’s Hospital. At the Breastfeeding Boutique, we help new families no matter where they deliver.

What we carry

At the Breastfeeding Boutique, we carry both the Spectra and the Medela double-electric breast pumps. It’s important to know the differences about what is available. When I meet with families, we talk through their insurance, their needs and our pump options to make sure they find the right fit for their budget and lifestyle.

Along with the pumps, we teach them how to use them, clean them, and carry the supplies to keep them working:

  • PersonalFitTM Breast Shields in sizes ranging from small to XXL
  • Tubing
  • Vehicle adapters and battery packs
  • Milk collection and storage solutions

Along with the pumps, new moms can also choose from a wide selection of breastfeeding accessories and breast care products:

  • Nursing bras
  • Nursing tanks
  • Breastfeeding pillows
  • Nursing covers
  • Breast care solutions

The Meaning of Care for breastfeeding moms

More than just breastfeeding pumps and supplies, what I enjoy the most about my work at the Breastfeeding Boutique is making new moms feel valued and understood. It’s my top priority.
